OUR LATEST NEWS
Life at Dragon Academy
I remember that at the closing ceremony, you said that this school was created because Asian children were a minority and you wanted them to have a home. I feel that this goal has been reached. Now, it doesn’t matter whether Lulu is at a restaurant, at the park, at the supermarket, or at an extracurricular, she always recognizes students of Houston Dragon Academy. She is very happy each time. Not only do the children recognize each other but also the parents know each other. I feel that even though I have been to many states and many cities, this is the first time I feel that I am not a foreigner. I feel like I have a home in my heart.
Today is my daughter’s seventh birthday, so I used a single-lens reflex camera to take some photos. I wanted to use wechat to transfer the photos from my computer to my phone and send it to my friends, but I accidentally sent it to the Houston Dragon Academy group chat. Perhaps it is fate; when I thought how to explain it to my family’s Dragon Academy baby, I remembered she said that she loves Dragon Academy.
I had hoped that one day they might read Dream of the Red Chamber or novels by Jin Yong. I didn’t expect that because of her studies at Houston Dragon Academy, she would see a lot of episodes of Dream of the Red Chamber dramas and other TV dramas and that she would know a lot of plot points. Next time, I hope that they will perform a play based on a Jin Yong novel.
Amber wants to go to Houston Dragon Academy every day. She says that it’s not just one of her favorite schools but that it is her favorite school of all.
We can see that you are combining traditional Chinese culture with modern Chinese culture in your lesson plans so that children are more willing to accept the education because it is a tangible, livable environment. As parents, we don’t want our children to learn old-fashioned ideals and ways of speaking, and this kind of speaking is apparent when they communicate with native Chinese children; the language they use can feel like crossing back into ancient times. Thank you and keep working hard!💪
